Docker and Proxmox
Applications in containers, virtualisation with Proxmox, open source tools self-hosted.
Lots of great tools are available as open source for self-hosting. I put them into containers or virtual machines, so they run neatly separated and can be updated cleanly.
What I do
- Applications in containers with Docker and Docker Compose
- Virtualisation with Proxmox
- Self-hosted open source tools
In short
Docker packs an application with everything it needs into a container, so it can be started, updated and removed cleanly. Proxmox splits one physical server into several virtual machines and containers that you manage through a web interface.
An example
For my own project CardRebels, Nextcloud, Vaultwarden and Uptime Kuma among others run in containers behind Nginx Proxy Manager, managed with Portainer. The mail server (mailcow) and the website with its PostgreSQL database run there in Docker as well.
